Mel's Porridge



A low-protein recipe for kids and adults with PKU —

2/3 cup Aglutella rice, dry
1/3 cup chunky applesauce or chopped apples
2 Tbl brown sugar
2 Tbl margarine or butter
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp raisins
2 Tbl raisins
1/3 cup apple juice

Boil 3 cups of water and add rice.  Cook until rice is soft and clear.  Drain off excess water, but do not rinse.  Add remaining ingredients and heat, stirring continuously until hot.  Yields 2 cups.

Total Phe in recipe (without topping): 56 mg
