Honey Wheat Bread
A low-protein recipe for kids and adults with PKU — by Dianne Sullivan
Adapted from the Bread Machine Cookbook by G. Shuett
1 cup (110 gm) Nutricia Wel-Plan Baking Mix
1¾ cups (190 gm) wheat starch
3 Tbl Metamucil® or store-brand psyllium (not flavored)
1½ tsp active dry yeast
¾ tsp salt
2 Tbl honey
2 Tbl oil
1¼ cups warm water
Combine first 5 ingredients in the bread machine. Put machine on dough cycle and press start. When the dough is finished, remove it from the machine pan. Knead once or twice until smooth and put in regular size bread pan that has been sprayed with non-stick spray. Cover and let rise in a warm oven (about 200 degrees, though oven must be off) until doubled (about 30 minutes). Remove dough from oven and heat oven to 375 degrees. Spray bread with cooking spray and bake for 25-30 minutes until nicely brown. Remove bread from oven, and immediately remove loaf from pan to cool on a wire rack.
